CCMG Won A Second Prize of 2011 National Science and Technology Progress Award

    On the morning of February 14, 2012, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. The leaders of the CPC and the State, Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, Li Keqiang, etc. attended the meeting. Premier Wen Jiabao made an important speech. The project, the integration and application technology of high-quality magnesium alloy, completed cooperatively by Chongqing University, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd., etc., won the second prize of National Science and Technology Award. The project leader Prof. Pan Fusheng, Director of CCMG, was met by Hu Jintao and other Party and state leaders. State Councilor Liu Yandong awarded prize to Prof. Pan Fusheng.
    Magnesium alloy, as the most promising lightweight materials has light weight, high specific strength, good damping properties and excellent characteristics for shielding electromagnetic radiation, can significantly reduce energy consumption and pollution. The development of new magnesium materials and deep processing technology of China has lagged far behind the developed countries, and the production chain of application productions is not fully built up. Thus, most exports are raw materials with low technical content and prices, due to the weakness of resource advantages translating into the product and economic advantages. Aiming at above problem, the project successfully developed a number of key technologies, including high-quality magnesium alloy, extrusion technology of profiles, efficient and environmentally processing technology and recycling technology of high-quality casting products, reverse filtering technology of heavy inclusions reverse self-purification, waste magnesium without flux refining equipment, magnesium alloy material database and magnesium product development technology systems, etc.. The achievements of the project solved the bottleneck problem of the disjunction of the development of new materials and new product applications in the process of popularization and application of magnesium alloy product, which played an important role in promoting scientific and technological progress of the industry and the optimization and upgrading of the product.
